Some of you may have got the email - SOE is closing Infantry.

Thankfully - we can finish our 6 week season, and play the SBL champs semis and finals all on the 7th week before the shutdown.

Because it's the final SOE season - i'm putting all 4 teams into the post season. 1v4, 2v3. winner vs winner, loser vs loser (if we have refs).

Please, enjoy what time we have left. We now have a definitive end date. Lets try and have some fun and enjoy the final 5 weeks.

I will of course see if Mode can get something up on free inf (or whatever they call it now) even if it's just for sunday night mixes in the future.

Hard to believe I started playing this when I was 12. I'm 23 now. Met lots of cool people, some not so cool. We should definitely keep an Infantry forum up somewhere to stay in touch. There's still some pretty resourceful people who check in here from time to time.

shit man, I remember dueling Burton4 (Wizard's Hat) in Skirmish back when I was still pretty new to the game... he bragged about his 400 play hours and owned me in some duels. 400 hours turned into 4k+ for lots of people lol

good times

This man speaks the truth, just thought I'd emphasis the important part of your post ; )

Although, dueling victories did not equate into SBL rings you lovable bastard.

Respect to Sony to removing it when interest is basically gone.

This would still make a fine Facebook game.

Good luck everyone.

The second online game I put countless hours into shutting down for good. I still miss playing Command & Conquer Sole Survivor. I started playing Infantry and Microsoft Allegiance around the time the Sole Survivor servers were shut down. Allegiance servers were shut down by Microsoft too, but luckily they released the source so the game is still alive today.

But really I have been missing Infantry for the past several years. I did not enjoy the last few seasons. I only really kept playing hoping SBL would be as fun as it had been when I began to play. The rest of infantry mostly died to me when it went P2P.

At least Altitude is still doing fairly well and there is not really any risk of the servers ever being shut down. I can't imagine Altitudes devs would ever shut down the servers while there is any activity at all on them.

Before Infantry I played a little old game called Chain of Command (CoC) which when said out loud sounds like Cock unfortunately.

By chance did anyone else used to play Chain of Command? I was a proud member of the regiment called Dirty Dozen in CoC.

P2P cut the population by 1/4 of 4000. Then hackers/abusers/real life commitments/new games faded the rest. I remember when Twin Peaks had 30+ arena's, all full with no queue line lol.

I will miss this game...

Started right at launch time pretty much.. forget the first arenas I played but eventually tried hockey, didn't like it, tried WzA and stuck.

Played with my buddy who always used the novapulse gone (to this day his online moniker is novap) and I generally did commando/medic. Those days as someone prior said, arenas were full, there were 4000+ people on.. it was good.

Eventually stumbled into TP and became a fairly well known medic in public, people followed me arena to arena cuz I'd get them pub wins (which I thought meant I was good, just meant I actually held a base... rofl). Soon tried to copy the play of Launchpad who had a ridiculous K/D ratio as a med (beacons always and better tranq aim then me..).

Got me recognized for CTFPL, which put me on Shadow Command season 2. Finished 2nd in regular season and then BAM P2P ruined playoffs that year. I dropped out completely until a guy I met on inf let me share his P2P account (his moniker was Primeagen). Played a little, did some guest time or his account but lost interest with not being able to pay.

Came back when I learned P2P was gone. Played TP/HP For awhile. Finally decided to test out other arenas and hit SBL. Caught SBL at the time it was on the old 2 goalie map. Joined rebirth for the last half of the season but didn't get in any games, wasn't really dedicated yet.

After that season ended and map changed game became more interesting. Helped create Balls Deep and the rest is history! Managed to play about 10 seasons of CTFPL and however many are listed on my name of SBL.

I called in sick / took vacation / missed dates etc... to play sundays. I think I had about 3 years where I never took a Sunday out of the house.... Stupid game eats souls.

I will miss it though. Best "worst game" I ever dedicated time too.

In the end I've met Rien in person, will meet Staley this summer, Would love to meet one or two other people (kurt!!) but hey.. chances are staley will rape and kill me so that dream dies this summer ;-).

Thanks for ~14 years infantry.
